Events for the 100th anniversary of the founding of CPC

A series of events will be held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, said Wang Xiaohui, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, at a news conference on Tuesday.

3月23日，中共中央召开2021年首场新闻发布会，中央宣传部分管日常工作的副部长王晓晖介绍了中国共产党成立100周年庆祝活动的有关安排。

Activities announced by Wang include: a Party-wide campaign on CPC history learning and education; a grand gathering to mark the centenary of the CPC; an awards ceremony for the July 1 Medal and outstanding Party members, exemplary Party workers and advanced community-level Party organizations; major theme exhibitions; theatrical performances; seminars and symposiums on theoretical study; a series of literature and artworks and publications and Party-themed publicity and education activities.

Chinese archaeologists announced Saturday that some new major discoveries have been made at the legendary Sanxingdui Ruins site in southwest China, helping shed light on the cultural origins of the Chinese nation.

3月20日，中国考古工作者表示，在中国西南地区传奇的三星堆遗址有了新的重大发现，有助于揭示中华民族的文明起源。

Archaeologists have found six new sacrificial pits and unearthed more than 500 items dating back about 3,000 years at the Sanxingdui Ruins in Sichuan Province, the National Cultural Heritage Administration announced in the provincial capital Chengdu.

国家文物局在成都宣布，考古工作者在四川三星堆遗址新发现了六个祭祀坑，并出土了500余件可追溯到约3000年前的文物。

The pits are rectangular, with areas ranging between 3.5 square meters and 19 square meters. So far, archaeologists have unearthed various cultural items from four of the pits, including pieces of gold masks, gold foil, bronze masks, bronze trees, ivory and jade. The rest of the newly discovered pits are still under excavation.

The torch relay for the postponed Olympic Games began its 121-day journey after a low-key opening ceremony at Japan's northeastern Fukushima prefecture here on Thursday.

Over 300 million Chinese suffer sleep disorders, according to 2021 White Paper on Exercise and Sleep released Thursday by Chinese Sleep Research Society before the World Sleep Day, Mar. 21.

The white book, covering 13,854 effective samples from across China, shows people making more money sleep less. People with monthly incomes of 3,000 yuan (about 461 US dollars) sleep below 8.19 hours a day on average, while those with monthly incomes of 25,001 yuan to 30,000 yuan averagely sleep 7.73 hours per day. Lawyers, business executives and doctors often stay up late because of overtime.

The Suez Canal, one of the world's most vital shipping routes, was blocked after one of the world's largest container ships ran aground in the narrow man-made channel early Tuesday, having caused disruptions to global shipments for days.
